CROCS REGATTA 15/16/17 December 2012

Day 1:
Race 1:Light winds with the Bridge postponing as they were expecting a wind shift.. eventually the decided to hold a race. YOLO got a good start but made a few crew mistakes in the race. When the wind starting shifitng and dying YOLO was on the wrong side of it so lost out.
Race 2: Good start, in breeze gusting in the early thirties. Great downwind sailing. Again some crew hitches that cost us, but good to sail in that sort of breeze.
Day 2:
Race 3: Nice South Westers in the upper teens with gusts just over 20.. Good sailing with team YOLO sailing well.
Race 4: Another good race with team Yolo beginning to find her form, nice close racing with some of the other boats.
Race 5: With a dying breeze, Yolo opted to break from the fleet and was caught without any breeze, so another bad score.

The last days racing was cancelled due to strong winds.
YOLO came 4th overall..

Aboard were(a couple of crew changes during the regatta): Ian, Dale, Dennis, Phillipa, Sarel, LEroy, Kenwyn,Alexander, Sieger//

Boat performed well, no problems.

WED Nite Racing -5th December 2012

Typical Wednesday night weather for this time of the year. A Strong South Easter was blowing. Nonetheless the Race Officer decided to proceed. He set a different course with a downwind start and two laid bouys, taking is in at Granger bay for a part of the race. The winds were in the high 20's at the start with gusts in the thirties... This remained the whole race with the return beat mainly at around 30. We got a good start but the later starters blanketed us, taking some time for us to get clear breeze again.. After this we sailed our own race leaving them to fight it out. Allowing us to sail a more direct course to the leeward bouy.. We then had a good beat into Granger Bay, rouding the mark there and then a sail parrelel to the breakwater and the final beat to the finish. All in all the boat performed well for the conditions. We "straightened" a reef bullhorn on the tack.. The highest wind speed noted was after the race while trasiting Ben Schoeman Dock.. at 37knots. We were please to have raced, giving us the opportunity of testing the boat in those conditions. Aboard were: Dale, Ian, Sieger, Sarel, Peter, Alex Cassar(newbie aboard) We can first in our class.
