WED Night Race- 24th October 2012-Race 2

Second Wedneday night race of the season albeit the 3rd one in the series. the second was blown out..
Ideal conditions, falt sea, 12 knots blowing.. who could ask for more. A nice course was set.. A minute before the start one of the competitors tried to sail over us so we started to nidge forward to block.. in the end we were both over the start line and had us coming back to restart.. we gyybed, hardened up and tacked=, now at the back of the fleet and startted to try and work back intot he fleet. As there was lots of dirty wind we tacked back and sailed to clear our air and tacked again.. we then tried to catch up ont he fleet chasing the puffs and sailing in clear breeze. At the weather mark we were still quite far back in the breeze. On the downwind we struggled for speed.. probbaly a bnit light for us without a kite(non spinnkaer race), We lost a posiition on this leg, the next leg being a tight fetch in fresh breeze had us take back two positions. In the end we came 4th on corrected time. It was a great evening on the water. Aboard were: IAn, Sieger, Frederic(From Jenneau), Hugo(a newbie) and Dale. No Problems.

Round Robben Island Race - Sat, 20th October 2012

With a Black South Easter Blowing, the fleet was reduced as most sailors chose not to race. Nevertheless we decided to take it on.. At the starting area there were gusts in the 30 odd knots.. It was a downwind start, pursuit race.. We started with a full main up, on time, lay off and hoisted our kite. It was a good hoist, we started to sail as we quickly tried to settle the boat down. We were sailing quite deep and must have got a gust in the late 30's with a lot of South in it.. this caused us to Chinese Gybe in style. It took us a long time to recover and recover the kite. We assessed our damage and realized we could not use the kite again. so we two sail reached our way down the course. We rounded Robben Island and tried to look for a SWesterly on the other side of Robben ISland with winds around 17-20knots which we picked up but then it swung back.. the final part of the beat had it gusting upto 35 knots again.. We ended up midfleet.. Aboard were: Ian, Sieger, Riaan Brits and Dale. We broke our windex, Spinnkaer pole fitting and bridle, blew a barbour hauler block and tore the kite.

Delivery-Simontown to Cape Town -2nd October 2011

With a weather window opening with light winds and no winds forecasted we opted to deliver the boat back to Cape Town during the week. We set off rounding the bullnose just after 8:10am under motor, hoisiting the main as we went. False Bay was very flat with us motoring. We rounded Cape Point where there was some swell and Motor Sailed Northbound passing fishing boats catching fish as we went. At one stage the winds rose to 11 knots for a short while on a beat and then died down to 5 again. We reached the Cape Town Breakwater at approx 4:20 making for quite a quick passage. Aboard were Sieger and Dale. Boat performed well.
